Are you excluding people with disabilities from the digital services you design? You don’t want that – and it shouldn’t happen. The Accessibility Act will come into effect in June 2025. Yet, groups of users are sometimes excluded due to barriers designers are unaware of. We can ensure that no one is excluded and that we comply with the WCAG guidelines. Let’s get started!
In our workshop on Inclusive Design and Accessibility, you will learn how to design experiences that consciously take diversity into account, such as age, education level, and (in)abilities. You will learn about solutions, recent developments, and see how creativity can bridge the gap between inclusive thinking and inclusive action. Using a case study, you will apply best practices and tools to create digital solutions that are accessible to the intended users. The workshop is highly relevant for designers, developers, and product owners.
Before attending the workshop, you will have already completed a 'homework assignment': you have tested (part of) your own web application or website for accessibility issues.
We start with an introduction: what is accessibility and why is it important? What is the legal framework? What are the most common issues? Through practical exercises, you will experience firsthand what it's like to encounter inaccessibility with a disability.
What issues arise from the homework assignment? How can you solve them? Together with a few participants, you will address these questions and share your experiences afterward. This will be alternated with theory on design biases, stakeholder management, and research. We will conclude with a brief evaluation.

It's useful if you have a laptop, so please bring it along; you can work with it during the workshop.
